The Fate of False Teachers
The scriptures warn us to be wary of those who corrupt the faith. As it is written, those that corrupt families shall not inherit the kingdom of God. This isn't merely a physical corruption, but a corruption of sound doctrine. The gravity of this offense is underscored by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. If those who commit offenses against the flesh are punished, how much greater will be the judgment for those who corrupt the faith for which Christ was crucified?
Such individuals, defiled by their wicked teachings, shall go away into everlasting fire, along with all who hearken to them. It is a stark warning: do not be deceived. The consequences of following false doctrines are eternal.
Discerning Truth from Falsehood
The importance of discernment is further emphasized. Those who have received from God the ability to distinguish between truth and falsehood, yet choose to follow an unskillful shepherd and embrace false opinions, will be punished.
What communion, the scriptures ask, has light with darkness? Or Christ with Belial? Or what portion has he that believeth with an infidel? Similarly, what communion has truth with falsehood? Or righteousness with unrighteousness? Or true doctrine with that which is false?
The Anointing of Immortality
The Lord suffered the ointment to be poured upon His head that He might breathe immortality into His Church. Therefore, we must not be anointed with the bad odor of the doctrine of the prince of this world. We must not allow him to lead us away captive from the life which is set before us.
We have received the knowledge of God, which is Jesus Christ. Let us not foolishly perish, failing to recognize the gift which the Lord has sent to us. For this end, the Lord suffered the ointment to be poured upon His head, that His Church might breathe forth immortality.
