The Certain Fulfilment of Prophecy: Two Advents Foretold
The prophets of old proclaimed two distinct advents of Christ. The first, already past, saw Him arrive as a dishonored and suffering man. The second, yet to come, speaks of His return from heaven in glory, accompanied by an angelic host. Understanding these prophecies is crucial for believers.
The First Advent: Suffering and Dishonor
The scriptures detail Christ's first coming as one of suffering and rejection. He came not as a conquering king, but as a servant, bearing the weight of humanity's sins. This aspect of prophecy has already been fulfilled, solidifying the credibility of the prophetic word.
The Second Advent: Glory and Judgment
The second advent, as foretold, will be markedly different. He will return from heaven in glory, accompanied by His angels. This event will include the resurrection of all who have lived. The worthy will be clothed in immortality, while the wicked will face everlasting fire, experiencing eternal sensibility to their punishment alongside the fallen angels.
Prophetic Examples
Ezekiel prophesied about the resurrection, stating, "Joint shall be joined to joint, and bone to bone, and flesh shall grow again; and every knee shall bow to the Lord, and every tongue shall confess Him." Isaiah speaks of the fate of the wicked, saying, "Their worm shall not rest, and their fire shall not be quenched."
Zechariah describes the reaction of the Jewish people upon seeing Christ coming in glory: "I will command the four winds to gather the scattered children; I will command the north wind to bring them, and the south wind, that it keep not back. And then in Jerusalem there shall be great lamentation...and they shall look on Him whom they have pierced."
The Importance of Understanding
The consistent fulfillment of past prophecies provides a firm foundation for believing those yet to come. These are not mere fables but divinely inspired pronouncements that will assuredly come to pass. Having "ears to hear and understand" is essential for navigating the times and aligning oneself with God's will.
